Cards make last moves before Rule 5 Draft

During their afternoon press conference to announce Mike Matheny‘s extension, General Manager John Mozeliak also announced that the Cardinals have added Oscar Taveras, Mike O’Neill, and Greg Garcia to the 40 man roster. They have also cut John Gast, Jermaine Curtis, and Ryan Jackson. While Gast and Curtis have been outrighted to the minors, Jackson was claimed off waivers by the Houston Astros. Westbrook signs new deal

The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that they have signed Jake Westbrook to a new deal. The deal is essentially a 1 year deal that gives Westbrook $250,000 more than he would have made on his 2013 option and gives both parties a mutual option worth $9.5 million for 2014.
